Gasoline prices in Rhode Island fell 7 cents this week, and are at the lowest point locally since late April. In Massachusetts, gasoline prices dropped 3 cents, marking the lowest price there since mid-April, AAA Northeast said Tuesday.
Self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.14 per gallon in Rhode Island and $2.06 in Massachusetts. The Rhode Island price is 1 cent above the national average of $2.13, while the Massachusetts price is 7 cents below it.
A year ago at this time, the average gasoline price in Rhode Island was 46 cents higher at $2.60 and the average price in Massachusetts was 47 cents higher at $2.53.
“You have to go all the way back to 2004 to find prices this low at this point in the summer,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement. “With gasoline supplies high and oil prices low, pump prices are likely to remain relatively cheap through the remainder of the summer and into the fall.”
In the Ocean State, regular unleaded prices range from $1.94 to $2.30, while other grades of gasoline cost as follows: $2.34, midgrade unleaded; $2.56, premium unleaded; and $2.33, diesel.
In the Bay State, regular unleaded ranges from $1.89 to $2.59, with midgrade unleaded at $2.37; premium unleaded at $2.55; and diesel, $2.35.
