Gasoline prices in R.I., Mass. continue slide

PROVIDENCE – While still above the national average, gasoline prices fell 4 cents per gallon in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to AAA Southern New England on Tuesday.

The auto club’s Oct. 11 survey said the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular at Ocean State stations was $3.55 per gallon, while it was $3.42 in the Bay State.

In Rhode Island, price ranged from $3.43 to $3.85; the national average stood at $3.40. A year ago, prices were $2.81 locally.

At stations in Rhode Island this week, the survey found average self-serve prices of $3.73 per gallon for midgrade unleaded, $3.87 for premium unleaded gasoline and $4.00 for diesel.

In Massachusetts, self-serve prices ranged from $3.60 per gallon for midgrad unleaded to $3.73 for premium unleaded and $3.85 for diesel.
