Gateway opens first-of-kind treatment center

CRANSTON – Gateway Healthcare recently opened the state’s first residential treatment facility for adolescents with both mental health and substance abuse issues.
Located at 70 East Ave., the program serves boys and girls aged 12 to 17. The average length of stay is expected to range from five to 15 days.
Named Caritas ARTS, the facility is hosted at an existing Gateway residential home and is licensed for up to 16 patients.
“We have found and research has confirmed that up to 80 percent of adolescents with a substance use issue have a co-occurring mental health issue,” said Richard H. Leclerc, president of Gateway Healthcare. “This program is focused on ensuring that the treatment we provide considers the whole person’s needs.”
The residential program is intended to complement inpatient and partial hospitalization programs already administered by Gateway and Lifespan partner Bradley Hospital.
