Gilbane installs indoor shooter detection system in its Boston office

Gilbane Building Co. has implemented a new Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System inside its Boston office in an effort to “significantly increase” the safety of its employees in the event of an active shooter incident.

Providence-based Gilbane, an international construction firm, is using the technology from Shooter Detection Systems LLC of Rowley, Mass.

“With the ever-increasing number of shooting incidents occurring in the United States, we see tremendous value in deploying the Guardian system in our Boston office,” Ryan Hutchins, senior vice president, Gilbane Building Co., said in a statement.

“The system is easily installed, barely noticeable and offers school administrators, building managers and the general public peace of mind that if a shooting incident occurs, emergency responders will respond to the scene within the fastest time possible and armed with detailed location information that could save lives. As one of the nation’s leading builders in the education market, we see clear advantages of having the Guardian indoor active shooter detection system installed in new and existing building projects,” he said.

According to information from Gilbane, the technology can accurately detect gunshots and provide precise location information to first responders within a second of the first shot.

“As the recent 60 Minutes Active Shooter report by Anderson Cooper highlighted, immediate notification and precise shooter location information leads to lives being saved,” Christian Connors, CEO of Shooter Detection Systems, said. “Citizens are increasingly demanding immediate action be taken to improve the safety of our schools, college campuses and publicly accessed buildings. The Guardian indoor active shooter detection system has proven to immediately alert and prepare first responders and building personnel of an active shooting incident so that lives can be saved. We are very pleased that another highly respected company such Gilbane has chosen to deploy Guardian within its offices.”
