Gilbane to manage $88M Ohio project

PROVIDENCE – Gilbane Building Co. has been chosen to manage the construction of an $88 million school building project in Elyria, Ohio, the company has announced.
The project includes the construction of five new elementary schools after demolition and abatement of 11 existing schools, Gilbane said in a news release. The new schools are planned to hold 3,200 students in the Elyria school district.
Gilbane, which was chosen by the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission to lead the project, has worked on other Ohio public school projects dating back to 1998.
“We are thrilled to have been selected by OSFC to lead this exciting project,” says Robert Sewell, Gilbane’s senior project executive for the Elyria City Schools effort. “The Elyria City Schools program will deliver tremendous new learning facilities for the city’s children together with significant operational savings thanks to the consolidation of the older facilities.”
The new schools are being designed by Architectural Vision Group of Cleveland.
The design phase of the school project is set to begin in June and construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2013, Gilbane said.
