PROVIDENCE – Associated Builders and Contractors, a national construction industry trade association, has presented Gilbane Building Co. with its Safety Training and Evaluation Process Diamond Award, the Providence-based construction company announced Wednesday.

“We are proud of this safety recognition from our peers in the industry,” remarked Tony O’Dea, Gilbane’s vice president and director of corporate safety.

“Our programs are the result of a companywide effort to develop and maintain comprehensive safety training and operational procedures for the more than 13,000 employees, contractors, partners and clients working on our job sites worldwide.”

To qualify for a Safety Training and Evaluation Process award, candidates must meet certain safety benchmarks that include having a documented substance abuse program, employing on-site supervisory personnel who have completed OSHA construction safety training, and actively involving employees in safety programs though self-audits, site inspections and job hazard analyses.
