Girls Scouts gets Amica donation

WARWICK – Girls Scouts of Southeastern New England has received a $75,000 donation from the Amica Companies Foundation to help build a state-of-the-art leadership center.
The gift was presented on Aug. 29 at the Girl Scouts’ headquarters. The organization works with 2,600 adult volunteers to serve 8,700 girls on southeastern New England.
Scouts will use the donation to help establish the Girl Leadership Experience Center, intended to function as a hub of connectivity and exploration at Scouts headquarters. Programming will cover making a difference, life skills, travel/adventure, camping/outdoor skills, global citizenship and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and math).
Used today for meetings and programs on a limited basis, the center is targeted to be filled with interactive technology that would allow girls to connect with their peers at urban satellite locations throughout the world, said Neil Stamps, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England.
“We were looking for that first big donation, and we’ve been blessed with Amica’s support,” said Stamps. “We want to continue moving forward toward our capital campaign objectives.”
Helping build a state-of-the-art facility for the Scouts is a primary goal, said Lisa DeCubellis, a vice president in the claims executive department at Amica Insurance and chairperson for Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England’s Board of Directors.
“We want to build girls of courage, confidence and character, and we need the funding to support that goal,” she said.
Amica Mutual Insurance Co., based in Lincoln, is a national writer of auto, home, marine and umbrella insurance.
