PROVIDENCE – Deborah Gist has resumed her post as the state’s elementary- and secondary-education commissioner after surgery to remove a brain tumor, The Associated Press reported.

The R.I. Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education voted to reinstate Gist last week, though she returned to work the week prior. Acting Commissioner David Abbott has returned to his role as deputy commissioner.

Gist underwent surgery in September to remove a grape-sized tumor discovered in July after she suffered a concussion, the AP said. •
