The holidays can be defined as a time that celebrates generosity of spirit. With that in mind, this week's cover story tells the tales of seven "secret Santas," people who have taken it upon themselves to help bring a little joy into the lives of some of the less-fortunate members of the community.
The people profiled are charged with coordinating companywide efforts or volunteer their own time. The results of their efforts range from bringing toys to children, connecting employees with volunteering opportunities or putting food on tables for the holidays.
What is common to them all is the search for more meaning in their lives, something beyond "just meeting the deadline" of the next project, as one of them so clearly put it. Some have engineered their careers to do just that; a number of them are carrying on family legacies.
But in every case, connecting with the larger community is a driving force in their lives. Their work is inspirational and a reminder that such efforts, while highly visible during the holidays, are welcome throughout the year. •
