Gogobot: Providence one of top 10 mid-sized food cities in U.S.

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s capital city was named the third-best mid-sized food city in America by Gogobot, which praised Providence for its diverse array of food trucks.
Gogobot, a travel website, said that Providence is one of the oldest cities in America, but that it is not “stuck in the past.” Gogobot pointed to the food trucks selling everything from tacos and crepes to cupcakes and Korean barbecue.
Cambridge, Mass., took top honors, beating the competition for its large number of farmers markets, followed by San Mateo, Calif., noted for its lack of fast food restaurants.
California cities dominated the remainder of the top 10 with five entries. In order, they are: Berkeley, Calif; Sunnyvale, Calif.; Pasadena, Calif.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Charleston, S.C.; Costa Mesa, Calif.; and Ventura, Calif.
Gogobot said it ranked all U.S. cities by population, using those that fell between 101st and 300th place. Those 200 cities were then ranked using five food-related statistics, such as population diversity, and number of farmers markets, restaurants, food trucks and fast food eateries. Points also were given to cities that received high Gogobot user rankings.
