The annual East Commerce Solutions Classic golf tournament to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence raised $65,000, which will be used towards the Teen Youth Employment Program, as well as other programming for more than 4,000 local youths served across the seven club sites in the Providence area.
Aside from the presenting sponsor, East Commerce Solutions, there were more than 10 additional sponsors, including Adler Pollack & Sheehan PC, Cox Communications, Deepwater Wind, Mellon Wealth Management and Trans-Mate. Further donations from raffle proceeds, as well as from businesses such as the Boston Beer Co., Coca-Cola and Whole Foods, raised another $15,000.
In addition to a financial contribution, Union Local 51, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trade, also donated labor and training to the youth employment program.
The program employs 50-100 teens ages 15-18 each summer to provide valuable job experience and strengthen occupational skills. The Boys & Girls Club also invests $3,300 per member annually to provide both life-saving and educational programs. •
