Two young companies are profiled in this week's edition of PBN, and while their stories are heartwarming and their successes so far are heartening, how they got where they are can be instructive to us all.
Doctor's Choice, all of 4 years old, is an in-person and online service that tries to make accessing Medicare less angst ridden. During his medical school training founder Dr. John Luo heard confusion from elderly patients, and so a business was born, one that is designed to communicate simply what folks need to know.
The founder of Zencare, Yuri Tomikawa, saw a need to inform and guide people looking for therapists based on her own experience. The site presents vetted clinicians across a number of specialties and provides other information, including details about health insurance.
In both cases, these businesses were built because their founders paid attention to their experiences and applied a rigorous business development process. Their creation here shows that entrepreneurial smarts are not the exclusive property of Silicon Valley or Cambridge. •
