Gowrie Group to offer risk management, insurance to N.E. museums

WESTBROOK, Conn. – Gowrie Group, an insurance agency that specializes in maritime insurance products, has signed an agreement to offer risk management and customized insurance solutions to members of the New England Museum Association.
The relationship between the two groups will begin with Gowrie Group be the presenting sponsor of NEMA’s annual conference, to be held Nov. 19-21 in Boston/Cambridge, Mass. “[Gowrie’s] leadership enables us to offer a robust program of events to our region’s museum community,” said Dan Yeager, the executive director of NEMA, strengthening “museums and their contributions to the culture and quality of life of communities throughout New England.”
Among the products that Gowrie brings to this new relationship are fine art appraisals, directors and officers liability insurance, protection for traveling/visiting collections, special events coverage, coverage for youth-related programming and risk-management/reduction techniques, according to a statement issued by the company.
Among Gowrie’s existing clients are the Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum, and Mystic Seaport, as well as 1,000 nonprofit sailing clubs and organizations across the United States.
“In many New England towns and communities, a museum is often one of the most prominent and important features,” said Carter Gowrie, the firm CEO. “Our involvement in risk planning and insurance for many of these museums and cultural institutions beiongs a great sense of pride to the Gowrie Group team.”
Gowrie has offices in Newport and North Kingstown, among others, as well as its headquarters in Westbrook, Conn.
