WJAR-TV NBC 10, Shred-It and the Pawtucket Red Sox recently held the ninth annual Great Shredding Event at McCoy Stadium, where more than 52,000 pounds of documents were destroyed. This year’s event saw an increase of 3.5 tons of documents destroyed over the previous year.
“This year’s Great Shredding Event beat all records,” said Kim Reis, digital media and marketing director at NBC 10. “The line remained steady all day and the good news is that it moved quickly. People said they had an average wait time of about 15 minutes which is impressive knowing we destroyed more than 26 tons of material.”
The free event is offered to help residents protect their identity by shredding their confidential documents into unidentifiable pieces onboard the Shred-It trucks. The shredded material will be recycled into other paper products.
Tino Ciatto, Providence general manager of Shred-It, said, “We’re very pleased with the success of this year’s event. It’s always a great opportunity to partner with two such community-oriented organizations as the Paw Sox and NBC 10.” &8226
