HOPKINGTON – GreenBytes Inc., developer of cloud-scale IO-offload solutions, has named Stephen O’Donnell, chairman of the board of directors, its new CEO, the company announced Thursday.

O’Donnell, who has named chairman of the board in late July, will continue to serve that role while leading the company’s executive management team.

“I am honored to take on the position of CEO at GreenBytes at such an exciting and pivotal time in the company’s development,” O’Donnell said in a statement.

“With a solid foundation and collective laser focus on solving the performance, cost and complexity problems around desktop virtualization, I am committed to furthering GreenBytes’ efforts in establishing itself as a premier brand and solution provider in the global virtualization marketplace,” said O’Donnell.

Previously, O’Donnell was CEO at MEEZA in Qatar, a large data center and managed services business; managing director at Enterprise Strategy Group, a leading analyst firm; global head of data center operations at British Telecom; and a member of the Advisory Board at Fusion-io.

“Steve O’Donnell is one of the very rare breed of IT technology executives who has truly walked the walk - he has lived this life,” Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst of Enterprise Strategy Group, said in prepared remarks. “Operating data centers all over the world, Steve knows the difference between a novel idea and a practical need. His involvement instantly gives GreenBytes credibility on a global level.”

Robert Petrocelli, the former CEO, remains with the company as founder and chief technology officer, while his brother, Richard, remains president and chief operating officer.
