PROVIDENCE – GreenBytes Inc., a developer of desktop virtualization services, has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its deduplicated snapshot replication.
The patent was awarded for GreenBytes’ proprietary method of replicating snapshots by utilizing the company’s zero latency inline deduplication technology, a key component of its IO Offload Engine and vIO solutions.
“This patent covers GreenBytes’ development of an optimized deduplicated replication method that only transfers changed and new data between incremental snapshots,” Bob Petrocelli, founder and chief technology officer, said in prepared remarks.
“When duplicate data is detected, we only send a tiny fraction of the data size, significantly reducing the amount of bandwidth required for replication, providing further cost reductions and performance improvements to users of our industry-leading solutions for desktop virtualization,” added Petrocelli.
Previously, GreenBytes was awarded patents for its method of the allocation of data on physical media by a file system that eliminates duplicate data and for its method of the allocation of data on physical media by a file system which optimizes power consumption and significantly improves the power efficiency of deploying data storage.
