GreenBytes receives Symantec qualification

ASHAWAY – GreenBytes Inc., developer of inline deduplication data storage, announced Dec. 6 that its GB-X Series of utility storage appliances received product qualification from Symantec.
“By receiving this product qualification from Symantec, GreenBytes is pleased to offer the small and mid-sized business market strong integration with Backup Exec,” said Bob Petrocelli, CEO of GreenBytes. “Symantec’s OST protocol is the optimal method for managing backups to disk with Backup Exec, enabling customers to create policy-based backup jobs that optimize network resources and therefore reduce backup windows significantly. All GreenBytes GB-X Series systems come with our complete software suite, including OST-powered Backup Exec interface.”
With Backup Exec, users can manage all data protection operation from a single point. GB-X Series appliances are administered from Microsoft Management Console using custom plug-ins “to enable simple administration of even the most complex data storage scenarios,” a news release said.
“Deduplication is one of many key features that drives real value for Symantec Backup Exec customers,” said Amit Walia, vice president of product management for Backup Exec, Symantec. “We are impressed by GreenBytes’ deduplication capabilities and power savings and are pleased to qualify the GB-X Series for use with our industry leading data protection software as part of Symantec’s OpenStorage Technology program.”
