PROVIDENCE – GreenBytes Inc., a developer of desktop virtualization solutions, has relocated its headquarters to downtown Providence and expanded its corporate offices.

The company, which was founded in 2007 in Westerly, said the move was necessitated by “significant business growth” and that it will enable “more expansive employee recruitment and business operations.”

The Providence move is the latest in big news for GreenBytes, which appointed Stephen O’Donnell as CEO and Brett Johnson as senior vice president of global sales in 2012.

Also in 2012, the company landed $12 million in series B funding from Generation Investment Management, Battery Ventures and the company’s founders to help accelerate sales and marketing efforts for its desktop virtualization solution: the IO Offload Engine.

“With a rapidly expanding business in an extremely hot market, we are faced with an ongoing increase in company personnel, and this office move enables GreenBytes to accommodate growth and plan for further business expansion,” O’Donnell said in prepared remarks, in large part by being closer to the sales, marketing and engineering talent in the Boston metro area.

The company has 27 people based in Providence, along with two in Texas (one in Austin, the other in Houston), two just outside Los Angeles and six in Europe (split between Amsterdam and London).

“GreenBytes is proud to be a Rhode Island-based high-technology company, and this move to Providence further solidifies our commitment to the state, and is an important step forward as we continue on our path as an industry leader and key innovator in the desktop virtualization market,” added O’Donnell.

GreenBytes new corporate headquarters is now located in about 5,500 square feet at 275 Promenade St., Suite 225, in Providence.
