PROVIDENCE – Groundwork Providence, a nonprofit that works to revitalize neighborhoods through development of green space, has been named the 2013 Champion in Action for strengthening communities by Citizens Bank and WJAR-TV NBC 10.

Groundwork Providence will receive a $35,000 unrestricted grant, media coverage, and promotional and volunteer support in recognition of its job-training social venture program Groundcorps, summer youth program Green Teams, and remediation of urban space to promote environmental stewardship.

“We are thrilled to be selected as a Champion in Action,” said Gary Cloutier, executive director of Groundwork Providence, in a statement. “This award will help us continue our mission of changing lives, greening neighborhoods, and cultivating pride and a sense of place for Rhode Islanders.”
