Group gives to oncology program

LINCOLN – Tracey Cheney and a group of friends have donated 25 specialty bags loaded with blankets, lotion and other gifts for women undergoing chemotherapy at the Program in Women’s Oncology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island.
Cheney and her friends each sponsored a bag from Cheney’s employer, Thirty-One, an accessory company, filling the bags with small fleece blankets, hand lotion, warm socks, hard candies and other items.
“Coming in for chemotherapy can be draining for some of our patients,” said Heather Murphy, nurse manager of the Program in Women’s Oncology’s Murray Family Infusion Center. “Treating them to one of these beautiful bags to help lift their spirits is a joy. This donation is having immediate impact on our patients, making some very difficult moments easier to bear.”
The center opened in 2014 on the first floor of the program’s building at One Blackstone Street. More than twice the size of the former facility, the center offers private and semi-private treatment spaces, and a lounge and nourishment center for patients and their families and caregivers.
