PROVIDENCE – Grow Smart Rhode Island is moving at the month’s end to Roger Williams University’s new downtown campus at 1 Empire St.

Grow Smart RI is an 18-year-old nonprofit public interest group committed to urban and town center revitalization and sustainable economic growth.

“The university has given us a rare opportunity to put more of our funding into direct program and policy work while tapping into its considerable research and organizational resources and at the same time maintaining our organizational independence,” Grow Smart RI Executive Director Scott Wolf said in a statement.
Wolf praised RWU for reaching out to his organization with the offer of free office space.

The move comes as both RWU and Grow Smart RI ramp up their involvement in providing policy and technical assistance to communities that want to advance their economies and quality of life, according to Grow Smart RI.

The move will allow Grow Smart RI to work more closely with the Latino Policy Institute, Housing Works RI at RWU and the RWU continuing Education Division, all housed now at RWU’s downtown Providence campus, Wolf said.

RWU President Donald Farish said the university is “delighted to welcome Grow Smart Rhode Island to our Providence campus.”
“Grow Smart is one of the premiere nonprofit organizations in the state, and we see abundant opportunities for joint ventures with Grow Smart and our students and educational programs,” Farish said.
Grow Smart RI is moving from 235 Promenade St. at the Foundry.

Grow Smart RI’s new address will be 1 Empire St., suite 523, Providence, RI, 02903; the phone number will continue to be (401) 273-5711.
