PROVIDENCE – H&R Block Inc. is kicking off this year’s refund season with a combined million-dollar sweepstakes given to 1,000 customers a day for more than a month.
Drawings begin Jan. 16 and continue for 32 days, meaning 32,000 people will win a combined $32 million through Feb. 19. Winners will be announced “within a few days” of each drawing, according to the company.
“This is unprecedented in the industry,” said Sandra Mattia, district general manager at H&R Block, in a statement. “H&R Block puts the ‘fun’ in refund season. And as the nation’s leading tax preparation company, we get you the most money back at tax time, guaranteed. And now there’s even more reason to celebrate with the chance to win a grand in your hand.”
Anyone who files taxes with H&R Block can be entered into the sweepstakes, but Mattia says the sooner people have their taxes done, “the more chances they have to win.
“That’s the opportunity to win a thousand dollars on top of whatever their refund might be,” Mattia said.
There are approximately 50 H&R Block locations in Rhode Island.
