HSRI: Enrollments rise 0.5%

PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI said 36,004 individuals have signed up for coverage through the exchange as of Feb. 20, a 0.5 percent increase from the week before.
The health insurance exchange said that most of those who have enrolled were auto-renewed into a 2016 plan. A total of 33,920 of the 36,004 individuals have paid their first month’s premium.
Open enrollment for individuals and families began Nov. 1.
Women comprise the majority of enrollments at 54 percent, or 19,281, while men comprise 46 percent, or 16,723. A majority of those enrolled are receiving financial assistance – 88 percent.
Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island continues to be the most popular plan with 49 percent of enrollments, followed by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island at 47 percent and UnitedHealthcare of New England at 4 percent.
Small employers may enroll at their renewal date, regardless of where it falls during the calendar year. As of Feb. 20, 2,247 small employer accounts have been created, and 811 small employer applications have been completed, with 557 small employers having paid for their enrollment, representing 4,075 covered lives, HSRI said.
From Feb. 14-20, HSRI received 9,349 phone calls and 13,760 visits to its website at healthsourceri.com.
