Habitat, Webster team up for home

Posted 5/11/12

PROVIDENCE – Habitat for Humanity of Providence and Webster Bank Rhode Island on May 8 teamed up to construct a single-family house on Waldo Street in South Providence.

Volunteer initiatives are part of Webster Bank’s employee benefits program where such banked hours can be used during the work day.

“One of our core values is giving back to the communities we serve,” said Bob Twomeny, president of Webster’s Rhode Island/southeastern Massachusetts region. “Bringing a group of bankers together to help build a Habitat for Humanity house, and thereby helping a deserving family move into a decent and affordable home, is a perfect example of what we call the Webster ‘Type W’ personality.”

Volunteers installed dry wall, painted the home’s exterior, and built a porch and back deck among other tasks.

Habitat for Humanity builds houses for low-income families in more than 100 countries. Habitat Providence currently has seven houses under construction and plans to complete 12 houses this year.
