Ever wonder why Rhode Island’s town of Lincoln is called Lincoln? Join Historic New England at the Arnold House Saturday for an explanation and some birthday cake in honor of the nation’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. Visitors will hear about Lincoln’s 1860 campaign trip to the area, and learn how the region memorialized him six years after his assassination by naming the current town in his honor. Not only is Lincoln’s birthday in February, but this month also marks the 150th anniversary of his signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
