Harrop named 2016 Woman Physician of the Year

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Medical Women’s Association announced that Dr. Pamela A. Harrop has been named Woman Physician of the Year.
She will be recognized at a May 16 dinner at the Marriott Providence Downtown, 1 Orms St.; a 6 p.m. reception is followed by a dinner and program, at 7 p.m. This award is given annually to a Rhode Island female physician who excels in both her field of medicine and her dedication to bettering the community.

A Rhode Island native who completed her internal medicine residency at Rhode Island Hospital, Harrop is in private practice with Medical Associates of Rhode Island. She is a clinical associate professor at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University, where she has received numerous awards, including the Rhode Island American College of Physicians Governor’s Award and excellence in teaching awards. She serves on Lifespan Corporation’s board of directors and recently began her tenure as president of the medical staff at Rhode Island Hospital.

She volunteers at Clinica Esperanza Free Clinic, where she also serves on the medical advisory board. Clinica Esperanza, founded in 2007, provides free primary care to uninsured residents of Rhode Island via a large network of volunteers. She also serves on the board of directors of Newport’s Women’s Resource Center, which serves those impacted by domestic violence.
