PAWTUCKET – Toy and game maker Hasbro Inc. landed the top spot on the 2012-2013 Climate Counts Climate Scores rankings in the toys and children’s products sector, Hasbro announced Wednesday. This is the fourth consecutive year Hasbro has earned the No. 1 spot in this sector.
According to a release, the game maker also received high honors as the most improved company in the rankings, achieving a 21 point year-over-year gain as a result of the company’s work reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving sustainable packaging.
“We are honored to once again be recognized by Climate Counts for our efforts to lead the way to a sustainable and low-carbon future,” Brian Goldner, Hasbro president and CEO, said in prepared remarks. “It’s a great testament to our environmental progress and demonstrates our sustainability commitment to consumers.”
Climate Counts, a nonprofit organization bringing consumers and companies together to address climate change, releases its report annually and recognizes companies across 17 sectors for their efforts in working to stop climate change and their initiatives that decrease their carbon footprint and improve operational sustainability.
The index ranks companies on a scale of zero to 100 for initiatives to reduce global warming, based on current carbon footprint as well as milestones and strategies to reduce their environmental impact.
Hasbro, which released its 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility program report Monday, has met and exceeded its goal to reduce emissions by 10 percent from a 2008 baseline and has achieved a 20 percent reduction to date.
