(Updated 1:26 and 4:59 p.m.) PAWTUCKET – Hasbro Inc. ranked 11th on a list of the 50 most reputable companies in the consumer category in the country, and moved up to seventh place in the non-food and beverage category, according to the Reputation Institute, which released its consumer list on Thursday.
The consumer industry includes firms that manufacture, market and sell consumer products, consumer durables, and food and beverage products.
Kellogg’s ranked first overall, and in the non-food and beverage category, Lego Group ranked first. Six new companies joined the top 10 in the non-food and beverage category this year, according to the institute, including Hasbro.
Earlier this month, Hasbro was recognized by the Reputation Institute as the 23rd most reputable company in the nation.
The Reputation Institute states that companies that invest in a strong reputation experience direct financial benefits.
Brad Hecht, the Reputation Institute’s chief research officer, said that the consumer industry has the “best reputation of any industry” that it tracks, so it makes it that much harder for companies to differentiate themselves.
“It means that in order to be one of the leaders you have to separate yourself from your peer group,” Hecht said. “Hasbro has done a good job of that.”
He said that Hasbro has done well with its products and services and corporate attributes – factors that drive a company’s reputation. It uses recycled paper, has had no recent product recalls and eliminated PVC from packaging, he said. In addition, Hecht said it is an “open and transparent company.”

Hasbro spokeswoman Alexia Taxiarchos said the company is pleased with its inaugural ranking on the consumer list and is thrilled to rank so highly.
Brian Goldner, chairman, president and CEO of Hasbro Inc., wrote in an email, “Hasbro’s commitment to operating responsibly and ethically is not only critical to our business, but also key to our success. Every time consumers choose Hasbro, they are not only choosing a fun, engaging brand experience, but they are choosing a company that is a corporate responsibility leader – a company that stands for product safety, responsible sourcing and environmental sustainability.”
