PROVIDENCE – Hasbro Children’s Hospital raised $436,003 at its 12th annual radiothon on Thursday.

The money raised will go toward efforts to improve patient care as well as fund procedures and research that could prove life-saving for an ill child. Since the beginning, the radiothon has raised more than $7.2 million according to information from Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

The radiothon, conducted in cooperation with Cumulus Providence Radio Stations, ran for 15 hours on five Cumulus stations. The day consisted of stories from patients and their families whose lives had been touched by the Hasbro and Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

Physicians and leaders at the hospitals also shared stories of hope and accounts of the impact these hospitals had on not only their patients, but them personally.

“Cumulus Providence is proud to continue our tradition of supporting Hasbro Children’s Hospital through the radiothon,” John Sutherland, market manager for Cumulus Providence, said in a statement. “Giving back to our community and helping make a difference in the lives of children in Southern New England is something we care deeply about.”

More than 100 volunteers gave their time to answer phones and collect donations from callers, including volunteers from local businesses. Some of which, like Alex & Ani’s Charity by Design, also opened their wallets and agreed to match donations that came in during special “power hours” that took place during the radiothon.

On-site, the event also offered opportunities for those in attendance. New England Patriots kicker, Stephen Gostkowski, along with some players from the Providence Bruins, showed their support for the Children’s Miracle Network and posed for pictures and signed autographs for fans.

“So much of the care we provide is possible thanks to support from the community,” Margaret M. Van Bree, president of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, said. “And the outpouring of generosity we received through this year’s Radiothon was nothing short of amazing.”

In addition to Alex and Ani Charity by Design, sponsors included Alexander’s Uniforms, Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grille, Cox Business, David D. Schuller, Dunkin’ Donuts, East Commerce Solutions, Hasbro Inc., Jordan’s Furniture, Lamar, Murray Outdoor Communications, National Guard Association of Rhode Island, Pepsico, Rhode Island Credit Union, Rhode Island Monthly, Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, Seasons Corner Market and Walmart.
