PROVIDENCE – Hasbro Children’s Hospital raised $1.06 million at its annual Nerf Ball fundraiser, held Saturday at the R.I. Convention Center.
The funds raised will go toward patient care, life-saving programs, research and education, the Lifespan institution said. More than 700 supporters attended.
Of the total raised, the event’s live auction “Fund-a-Need” alone raised more than $205,000 for the Lawrence A. Aubin Sr. Child Protection Center at the hospital. The only program of its kind in the state, the center treats children who suffer from abuse and neglect.
Among the items generating friendly bidding wars for the cause were: a weeklong trip for four to stay in a villa in Tuscany; a Boston Red Sox package featuring four premium seats; and the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park.
“The community’s incredibly generous response to the Nerf Ball, combined with the tireless efforts of our chairs and the entire event committee, will help to make an incredible impact on the lives of our patients and their families when they need us most,” said Margaret M. Van Bree, president of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “We are forever grateful for the support that enables us to deliver the very best care possible to every child and family who walks through our doors.”
Besides, Hasbro Inc., the presenting sponsor, more than 60 sponsors contributed to the event’s success, including signature sponsors Alex and Ani Charity by Design, International Game Technology PLC, and Toys “R” Us; platinum sponsors KPMG and Tufts Health Plan; and gold sponsors H. Carr & Sons Inc., Procaccianti Companies, Swarovski and The Washington Trust Co.
