Hasbro Children’s unveils $1.5M GetWellNetwork

Posted:

PROVIDENCE – A new technology system has been installed in each patient room at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, turning an in-room TV monitor into an interactive network.

The GetWellNetwork, created with a $1.5 million gift from Hasbro Inc., is designed to: better connect each patient with his or her doctors and other clinical staff, entertain and educate young patients, and help keep patients and families more informed.

The new technology network features a 22-inch touch-screen television, with content that includes expert patient education, movies, Internet use, patient surveys and interactive games.

The network enables a patient’s care providers to deliver content to a patient’s bedside, including a “Question of the Day,” educational programs specific to managing a child’s diagnosis, or the Discharge Pathway program that helps guide families through discharge. The new network also creates a feedback look for hospital administrators, with insight into how patients perceive the care they are receiving and a snapshot of a patient’s daily activities.

“When a child is sick or injured, providing a way to keep a parent connected to friends and relatives, distract a child who’s not feeling well, or easily inform staff about their patients’ needs can make a huge impact on that family’s experience,” said Dr. Timothy J. Babineau, president CEO of Rhode Island Hospital.

“We are pleased that this gift will help the Hasbro Children’s Hospital continue its pioneering work in being one of the best children’s hospitals not only in New England but the country as well,” said Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro. “The GetWellNetwork will really help each patient and their families feel more connected during their time in the hospital.”
