PAWTUCKET – For the fifth year in a row, toymaker Hasbro Inc. has been named one of the world’s most ethical companies.
“Hasbro is honored to be ranked amongst the World’s Most Ethical Companies. … This is a testament to Hasbro’s strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, governance and ethics, and environmental sustainability,” Brian Goldner, chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement.
The Ethisphere Institute named 131 companies to the 10th annual list. Firms represented span 21 countries and more than 45 industries. Hasbro was the only Rhode Island company to make the list.
The institute said it honors companies that excel in three areas – promoting ethical business standards and practices internally, enabling managers and employees to make good choices, and shaping future industry standards by introducing tomorrow’s best practices today.
“Honorees have historically out-performed others financially, demonstrating the connection between good ethical practices and performance that’s valued in the marketplace,” according to the Ethisphere Institute.
Ethisphere CEO Timothy Erblich said that as a five-time honoree, Hasbro’s commitment to leading with integrity is evidenced by its “continuing commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives.”
“Hasbro recognizes its role in the global business community and the value this creates for investors, customers and employees. Congratulations to everyone at Hasbro for again being recognized as a 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company,” he said.
Ethispere said it scores businesses based on five categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent).
