PAWTUCKET – On Dec. 6, Hasbro Inc. employees will partner with nonprofit organizations in 36 countries on community service projects benefiting underserved children for the toymaker’s first-ever “Global Day of Joy.”
Wearing blue “Team Hasbro” shirts, the company’s nearly 5,000 employees will participate in community service projects, masquerading as holiday “elves” to work with more than 100 nonprofits around the world.
“Our inaugural Global Day of Joy is an opportunity to pause during our busiest time of the year to bring smiles to approximately 75,000 of the world’s neediest children,” said Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro, in a news release. “It also gives our employees a greater sense of what we can accomplish collectively and provides them with a deeper connection to all of the child-focused nonprofit groups we work with worldwide throughout the year to make a difference in the lives of children.”
In Hasbro’s home state of Rhode Island, more than 1,300 Team Hasbro volunteers will help spread joy to underserved children through 33 local service projects taking place both on location at Hasbro and around the community.
Hasbro’s global headquarters at 1027 Newport Ave. in Pawtucket will turn into a “virtual North Pole” workshop for the day, with more than 400 Team Hasbro volunteers working on an assembly line to prepare nutritional food packages for hunger relief-organizations. Other employee volunteers will wrap gifts and prepare goody bags for the holiday parties of local nonprofit organizations.
At Smith Hill Early Childhood Learning Center in Providence, more than 60 children aged 3 to 5 will participate in a Hasbro-sponsored “Game Day” with hundreds of toys and games.
Elsewhere, Hasbro volunteers will paint a mural in the children’s play area at Friends Way, a family bereavement center in Warwick that helps children cope with the loss of a family member through group and individual counseling.
Some of the national and global nonprofits involved in Hasbro’s Global Day of Joy include SOS Children’s Villages International, an organization with a presence in 133 countries that helps disadvantaged families care for their children, and SeriousFun Children’s Network, an international camp organization that helps children cope with serious illnesses.
Other Rhode Island nonprofit organizations and schools partnering with Hasbro to reach underserved children on the Global Day of Joy include:
