PAWTUCKET – Hasbro Inc. has been named one of the world’s most ethical companies for the sixth year in a row and again was the only Rhode Island-based company recognized, according to the Ethisphere Institute, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based organization that measures corporate ethical standards.
The toymaker, featured in the consumer products category, was among 124 honorees on the 11th annual list.
Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s chairman and CEO, said it is “humbling” to be featured again on the “esteemed list.”
“We take great pride in being recognized as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. This honor underscores our deep commitment to operating with integrity and fulfilling our purpose, to make the world a better place for children and their families,” Goldner said in a statement.
Ethisphere honors companies that recognize their role in society to influence and drive positive change, and that also consider the impact of their actions on their employees, investors, customers and other stakeholders.
“Hasbro is creating sustainable, long-term value by upholding the highest ethical standards and prioritizing corporate responsibility across its global business,” Ethisphere’s CEO Timothy Erblich, said in prepared remarks. “We see Hasbro as one of a select group of companies that are embracing the value of integrity at the heart of their business. Congratulations to everyone at Hasbro for being, once again, among the World’s Most Ethical Companies.”
Ethisphere uses an Ethics Quotient to assess a company’s ethical performance.
Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent) and are provided to all companies who participate in the process.
Other companies with a local presence that were featured on the list are: CBRE Group Inc. and Jones Lang LaSalle Inc. in real estate, conglomerate General Electric, National Grid PLC in energy and utilities, ON Semiconductor in electronic components and semiconductors, Petco Animal Supplies Inc. in retail, Schneider Electric in diversified machinery, Starbucks Coffee Co. in specialty eateries, and T-Mobile US Inc. in telecommunications.
Ethisphere said the 2017 honorees span five continents, 19 countries and 52 industry sectors.
