PROVIDENCE – William F. Hatfield has been elected board chairman of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, according to an announcement by the organization Tuesday.

Hatfield is Bank of America Corp.’s Rhode Island market president, and previously served as board chairman from 2009 to 2011.

Hatfield, who is taking over for outgoing chairman, Peter Andruszkiewicz, said: “I welcome the opportunity to serve in this leadership role at the Chamber as we work toward creating a more vibrant economy in Rhode Island.”

Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, said she was thrilled for Hatfield to return to the leadership position.

“With his depth of business experience and his passion for civic leadership through various community service organizations, Bill is an invaluable asset to the Chamber,” she said.

As the most senior Bank of America executive in the state, Hatfield leads business integration in the market and heads the company’s growth strategy and external brand commitments. He also is the managing director and market executive for U.S. Trust in Rhode Island.

An engaged community leader, Hatfield is currently board chairman of Skills for Rhode Island’s Future, vice-chairman of Crossroads Rhode Island and former chairman of the Providence Foundation, at which he remains active on the board. In addition, he serves on Junior Achievement of Rhode Island’s executive council, trustee and member of the executive committee of the Preservation Society of Newport County and director of the Rhode Island Bankers Association.

In 2009 Hatfield was named “Corporate Citizen” in Providence Business News’ Business Excellence Awards program for his community involvement.
