Have state leaders done enough to assist financially ailing Central Falls?

Posted 2/7/11

Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee last week named former state Supreme Court Justice Robert G. Flanders Jr. as Central Falls receiver, replacing another former judge, Mark A. Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer served as Central Falls receiver for the past six months. In December, Pfeiffer said in a report that the financially troubled city should attempt to be annexed by neighboring Pawtucket.

Central Falls has a projected deficit of as much as $25 million from 2012 to 2016 and an $80 million unfunded pension liability, according to Pfeiffer’s report.

Is the state doing enough to assist this struggling community?
