PROVIDENCE – Mark S. Hayward, the Rhode Island district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, will serve as a temporary senior adviser to Linda E. McMahon, confirmed by Congress on Tuesday to head the federal agency.

In this role, Hayward will travel to Washington, D.C., to help bring McMahon up to speed on the status of current priorities and projects on the U.S. Small Business Administration’s docket.

Senior-adviser roles during a presidential administration’s transition period last 120 days, according to the R.I. branch of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Hayward is expected to return from the nation’s capital in late April.

A spokesperson for the local SBA branch said Joan L. Moran, the Rhode Island deputy district director, will fill in for Hayward while he is away.

As the 25th administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, McMahon will be responsible for a 2,000-employee agency, which helps small-business owners and entrepreneurs receive financing, technical assistance, training and federal contracts.
Previously, she served as the co-founder and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., and led two unsuccessful campaigns to represent Connecticut in the U.S. Senate during both the 2010 and 2012 state elections.
