Health-benefits summit a top-of-mind topic

Posted 9/30/13

When 400 people take a morning out of their busy schedules to listen to a panel discussion that is not likely to generate more revenue or inspire a product innovation, you know the event must be important. And last week’s PBN Summit on the Health Benefits Exchange was just that.

Co-produced by HealthSourceRI, the exchange that goes live on Oct. 1, the event’s panel delved into topics that included the power that individual choice will have to reshape how we consume health care, what to expect on costs, both now and down the road, how much support the exchange will offer companies and consumers, how much effort has been spent on attending to the concerns of small businesses, and whether a government shutdown will have any effect on the operations of HealthSourceRI (according to the head of the exchange, no).

The full story can be found in the pullout section in this week’s edition, but it is clear that health care in Rhode Island will be undergoing a major shift starting this week. •
