HealthSource RI: Nearly 8K new customers have signed up

HEALTHSOURCE RI is reporting that its numbers are continuing to grow; 7,660 new customers have signed up for the health benefits exchange since Jan. 17.

PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI’s enrollment numbers continue to grow, with the agency reporting that 7,660 new customers have signed up for the health benefits exchange since Jan. 17.

HealthSource said that open enrollment for individuals is continuing until Feb. 15.

Of the new customers, 5,646 have paid. The total number of customers who have renewed coverage is 21,129, and 18,460 have paid.

That means a total of 28,789 individuals have signed up so far; there are 20 plans available, HealthSource said.

The agency also said that 62 percent of renewing individuals have selected a different plan for 2015, with 40 percent of renewing individuals selecting a plan with a different carrier for 2015.

As for the small-employer side, 1,950 accounts have been created as of Jan. 17, with 574 small employer applications completed by 574, representing 3,492 covered lives.

In addition, HealthSource reported 196,424 inbound phone calls from Nov. 7 to Jan. 17, as well as 10,551 walk-ins to its Providence office, and 2,494 walk-ins at its Warwick location. HealthSourceRI.com received 484,589 page views during that time.

New and renewing customers who enroll and pay their first month’s premium by Jan. 23 will have coverage that begins on Feb. 1. Those who pay by Feb. 23 will have coverage beginning March 1.

Small employers may enroll at their renewal date, regardless of where it falls during the calendar year.
