PROVIDENCE – As the second year of the Rhode Island health benefit exchange gets underway, HealthSource RI is hosting a series of enrollment events around the Ocean State.

The events help individuals enroll in health plans before the open enrollment period ends on Feb. 15.

For coverage starting Jan. 1, enrollees must sign up and pay for a plan by Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Rhode Island is one of a small number of states in which ACA enrollees have to re-enroll, even if nothing has changed since their initial enrollment last year (e.g., no changes in income, dependents, residence).

The state’s exchange is also running two walk-in centers to assist people with enrolling. The first is at 70 Royal Little Drive in Providence. A second center was recently opened at 1923 Post Road in Warwick.

The hours for both centers are: Monday through Saturday, 8 am to 9 pm, and Sundays from noon to 6 pm.

The enrollment events at cities and towns all around the state include a presentation on the options available.

Small-business owners, who are permitted to enroll throughout the year at their regular renewal date, are encouraged to use HealthSource RI’s SHOP exchange or contact HSRI staff at 1-855-840-4774.

HealthSource RI Director Christine Ferguson said that even those who purchased coverage last year would do well to see what’s new for 2015.

“We have some plans with lower premiums in 2015 and some new plans, including some that are offered only on the Exchange,” Ferguson said.
