PROVIDENCE – When HealthSource RI opened for enrollment Tuesday morning, Rhode Islanders flooded the website, resulting in a temporary crash.

The website’s capacity has since been increased, exchange spokeswoman Dara Chadwick said, and the website is now up and running.

Chadwick said that in launching a major IT initiative, glitches are to be expected. She urged people to call the contact center at 855-840-4774 if they are having any trouble accessing the site.

So far there has been significant interest in the exchange, Chadwick said, with people not only logging into the website, but also calling the contact center and coming in person to seek help.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, HealthSource RI had received 1,444 calls, about 600 emails and about 25 walk-ins, Chadwick wrote in an email.

Website page views averaged 3,000 per minute today, with 6,000 page views per minute at one point, which caused the capacity issue, she wrote. HealthSourceRI added servers, and the website has been running fine since.

HealthSource RI, the state health insurance exchange tasked with implementing the federal Affordable Care Act in Rhode Island, is pleased with the public’s response, Chadwick added.
