Healthsource RI: Enrollments rise nearly 3%

PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI reported on Tuesday that enrollments for individuals and families climbed 2.7 percent since last week to 32,840.
Nearly all of the individuals have been auto-renewed into a 2016 plan, according to HealthSource RI. The number represents enrollments, paid and unpaid, through Dec. 19.
A total of 3,072 individuals have selected a plan for 2016 coverage, and are new to HSRI this year or returning after being enrolled with HSRI at some point during a prior year, the exchange said.
Eighty-seven percent of those enrolled are receiving some type of financial assistance.
Neighborhood Health Plan continues to be the most popular carrier with 52 percent of enrollments, followed by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island with 44 percent, and UnitedHealthcare with 4 percent.
As of Dec. 19, a total of 2,201 small employer accounts were created, with 777 small employer applications completed.

While open enrollment for individuals and families runs from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, small employers may enroll at their renewal date, regardless of where that date falls in the calendar year.
Medicaid-eligible individuals also may enroll throughout the year, according to the exchange.
HealthSource RI said it received 75,745 phone calls since open enrollment began through Dec. 19, and also received 160,011 visits to its website during that period.
