Welcome to Providence Business News’ inaugural Healthiest Employers program special section. In these pages you will find out a little about some of the state’s most enlightened companies, ones that take the needs of the employees very seriously, and as a result, deliver better products and services to their customers.
As with our 7-year-old Best Places To Work program, the judging is done by an outside group, Healthiest Employers, a privately held technology-and-data-research company with a focus on wellness.
All companies that entered the 2012 Healthiest Employers program had their data measured and benchmarked against other similar programs across the country, and then were graded and ranked. What you see in this section are the 28 top scorers across company size, all of them having demonstrated that they are operating effective health-and-wellness programs for their workers.
Many companies have taken advantage of the state’s own Shape Up Rhode Island program offerings, using group competitions to help involve employees in fitness regimes. Other companies (and often the same ones) have taken to having farmer’s markets in the workplace, helping hard-working staffs gain access to fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms and orchards.
But no matter the programs, all of the companies profiled here have taken the time to understand the needs of their employees, the stresses they are under, and devised solutions to the challenges they face.
Helping PBN get this inaugural Healthiest Employers program off the ground are presenting sponsor Tufts Health Plan, as well as partner sponsors CVS Caremark Corp., Preventure, USI Insurance Services and Shape Up Rhode Island. Media sponsor is AM790.
