Heavy rains flood Fall River hospital

FALL RIVER – For the second time in a week, heavy rains and flash floods left the emergency room of Fall River’s St. Anne’s Hospital underwater, according to The Herald News.

On Wednesday, workers fought back a flash flood with sandbags, and on Friday, Aug. 10, flooding down Davol Street and Stafford Square forced an evacuation of the hospital after water reached the hospital’s electrical system.

On both occasions, ambulance traffic was diverted to other emergency rooms, including Charlton Memorial Hospital.

According to the news source, officials are not sure if the recent flooding is the normal result of heavy rains or indicative of a poor stormwater drainage system.
