Helena B. Foulkes

Marathoner Helena B. Foulkes is a leader for CVS Health Corp. and its CVS/pharmacy. As a runner in her private life, and in her professional roles as executive vice president and president, she is well-paced and results-focused, leading by example.

Most recently as CVS’ chief health care strategy and marketing officer, Foulkes is credited with several game-changing moves, helping the company continue its evolution past the level of a simple drugstore to become a trusted, resourceful partner in health care.

Foulkes was largely responsible for rebranding CVS Caremark to CVS Health. She has led innovations like ExtraCare, the biggest retail loyalty program in the United States, with tens of millions of Americans attaching the CVS key fob to their key ring to cash in on savings. She launched Pharmacy Advisor, which fosters more communication between pharmacists and patients to improve medication compliance for chronic conditions.

Then, CVS removed tobacco products from all of its stores in September 2014.

“Customers and patients place their trust in our 26,000 pharmacists and nurse practitioners,” said Foulkes at the time. “The removal of cigarettes and other tobacco products from our stores is an important step in helping Americans to quit smoking and get healthy.”

Her work has not gone unnoticed. In 2014, Foulkes was named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business.

And CVS, under Foulkes’ leadership, looks to pass on a legacy of wellness. For instance, CVS teamed up with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in a $5 million grant program to help improve the health of the next generation. •
