PROVIDENCE – Ten Providence Public School District high school seniors were awarded $1,000 by Aramark Education to support their higher education at an awards ceremony June 5.
The ceremony, held at Roger Williams Park Casino, included Mayor Angel Taveras, who said the winners “have shown their commitment to excellence” through their high school academic performance.
The students hailed from nine different public high schools. Applications for the awards required an essay, letters of recommendation, extracurriculars, work experience and plans to enroll in a two- or four-year college. Only students with a grade point average of 2.8 or higher were eligible to apply.
“As post-secondary education becomes more important – and more expensive – Aramark is proud to help students in the city where so many of us live and work,” Gwendolyn High, associate vice president of community relations at Aramark, said at the ceremony.
