PROVIDENCE – Roshni Lakhi, of the Highlander Institute, was named one of five winners of the Next Generation Leaders Program by EdScoop and the Consortium for School Networking at their annual conference earlier this month.

Keith Kruger, CoSN CEO, said: “This is an important moment to recognize the technology leaders of tomorrow. Chosen by their peers and the entire education community, these leaders have taken demonstrable, visionary steps to drive technology programs and accelerate learning success through digital tools in their schools.”

The program, which chose five winners out of 29 finalists, is an initiative that endeavors to help emerging K-12 education technology leaders receive recognition.

In the second year of her career as a teacher, Lakhi, a blended learning specialist from the Highlander Institute, was named the lead technology integrator in the local school district.

Lakhi was integral in bringing the organization Girls Who Code to Rhode Island. The organization teaches young, at-risk girls from urban areas the language and importance of computer coding. Last year, as a volunteer, she trained, organized and managed the organization – the first of its kind in the state – while developing it out of its infancy.

Winners were announced at the 2016 CoSN annual conference in Washington, D.C. CoSN teaches educational communities how to leverage technology to realize engaging learning environments.
