PROVIDENCE – Leon C. Boghossian III received the Harold B. Soloveitzik Professional Leadership Award from the Rhode Island Foundation Thursday at its annual meeting.
The award honors professional and personal commitment to philanthropy.
Boghossian is an attorney at Hinckley Allen whose principal practice is in estate planning. He is also president of the Board of Directors for the Sandra Feinstein Gamm Theater in Pawtucket.
“Leon gets philanthropy,” said Jim Sanzi, the Foundation’s vice president of development. “He understands that the role of the professional advisor is first and foremost always to the client.”
Other key award winners were Loulie Mauran Groton, a long-time Providence resident and philanthropist, and winner of the Inspiring Partner Award, and Farm Fresh Rhode Island, recipient of the Community Leadership Award.
Groton, along with her family, created the Rainbow Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation. Rhode Island Hospital and the Community Preparatory Charter School are among the recipients of her philanthropy.
About to mark its 10th anniversary, the Pawtucket-based Farm Fresh Rhode Island was honored for its work on initiatives including Market Mobile, Harvest Kitchen and “Bonus Bucks” as well as expanding the number of farmer’s markets. The nonprofit is developing a local food system that promotes the environment, health and quality of life of Rhode Island farmers and consumers.
Held at the Rhode Island Convention Center Thursday and attended by more than 700 business leaders, donors, grant recipients and community leaders, the meeting also focused on the Foundation’s record $31 million in grants and new strategic plan.
“It is our privilege to work with all of you to move our state forward and meet the needs of all Rhode Islanders,” said Neil Steinberg, the Foundation’s president and CEO. “It has been a dynamic and transformational year for the Rhode Island Foundation and also a year of tremendous success.”
