Historic New England receives grant to restore 1750s-era farmhouse in Saunderstown

SAUNDERSTOWN – The 1772 Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to Historic New England to fund exterior repairs and painting of Casey Farm’s 1750s-era farmhouse.

Work on the farmhouse will include windowsill and clapboard repair, installing a wooden drain, two doors and pilasters to the front entrance. The entire exterior of the building will also be painted. Work is expected to be completed by the fall.

An active farm since the mid-18th century, the 1772 Foundation grant will help maintain Casey Farm so future generations can enjoy the historic site. Casey Farm is one of 36 historic sites owned and operated by Historic New England.

“It absolutely is a significant and meaningful grant and will help ensure the building’s preservation so future generations can enjoy the site. [A] growing number of programs and community partnerships at the site and the circa 1750 farmhouse is the centerpiece of the farm, and these funds will help repair [it]. Help support the work we’re doing there,” said Dan Santos, Southern New England regional site manager for Historic New England.
