IRVINE, Calif. – Home prices rose in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and across the country in June, according to the home price index released Tuesday by residential property information provider CoreLogic.

The home price index, which tracks increases and decreases in sale prices for the same homes over time, increased 2.8 percent in Rhode Island in June over the same time last year. Prices, including distressed sales, increased 3.2 percent in the Providence-New Bedford-Fall River metro area from June 2012 to June 2013.

In Massachusetts, prices were up 8.7 percent year over year.

Both local increases fell behind the national home price index, which increased by 11.9 percent in June compared with June 2012. Home prices nationally were 19 percent below their April 2006 peak.

Rhode Island was one of the states furthest below its peak home price index, with the June 2013 index 31.7 percent below the October 2005 peak. Other states far off peak included Nevada, Florida, Arizona and Michigan.
